Environment Minister David Parker is under pressure to install an independent Commissioner at the Manawatu-Whanganui Regional Council to force it to do more to clean up polluted lakes and rivers.
The pressure is coming from community and environmental groups, including WECA. They’ve had it with Horizons and want the Minister to step in. The Hokio Stream runs into Lake Horowhenua and was an important source of kai for the local hapu, Ngati Pareraukawa, as its environmental spokesman, David Moore explains to RNZ reporter Kate Gudsell.
